Drake is the gift that keeps on giving on the 2018 Billboard charts. The release of his new double album “Scorpion” gave him a record-setting seven songs in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart last week, including “Nice for What” getting its eighth nonconsecutive week at number-one. Predictably, most of those songs have fallen out of the top 10 on the latest chart dated July 21. Poor Drake now has to settle for three top-10 hits.
But while “Nice for What” dropped back down to number-four and “God’s Plan” slipped two spots from number-four to number-six, one of Drake’s songs actually moved up: “In My Feelings,” which jumps from sixth position to first place. So this isn’t just Drake’s third number-one single of the year, it’s also the second time this year that Drake has replaced himself at number-one. Previously he spent 11 weeks on top with “God’s Plan” before “Nice for What” took its place.
“In My Feelings” got a big bump from a viral online challenge started by Instagram comedian Shiggy, which has inspired numerous celebs to #DoTheShiggy to Drake’s song. This gives Drake his sixth number-one hit overall, which is a new record for rap artists, overtaking Diddy, Eminem, and Ludacris, who have had five chart-toppers apiece.
But even with Drake’s continued domination other artists made room for themselves in the top five. “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B climbs to a new peak position: number-three. And newcomer Ella Mai scored her first top-five hit as “Boo’d Up” rebounds into fifth position.
And former number-one hit “I Like It” by Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin has inched back up one spot to number-two, so she’s trying to get back to that elusive summit. Will she get there, or will Drake stay all up in his “Feelings”?
