Emmy Experts predict Elisabeth Moss will win Best Drama Actress, with Sandra Oh and Keri Russell tied for second place

Twenty-three of Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts from major media outlets have chimed in with their Best Drama Actress predictions, and Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) is the favorite to win her second consecutive Emmy. After losing six times for “Mad Men,” Moss now finds herself on a roll with the TV academy as she took home two trophies last year for acting in and producing “The Handmaid’s Tale.” While she’s the favorite with 15 Experts picking her to win, two other leading ladies have the support of 4 Experts apiece: Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”) and Keri Russell (“The Americans”). Talk about a nail-biter! Who do YOU think will win?

The 15 Experts backing Moss are: Debra Birnbaum (Variety), Debbie Day (Rotten Tomatoes), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Bonnie Fuller (Hollywood Life), Kelly Lawler (USA Today), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Robert Rorke (New York Post), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Kaitlin Thomas (TVGuide.com), Anne Thompson (Indiewire), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Ken Tucker (Yahoo), Adnan Virk (ESPN), Glenn Whipp (LA Times) and Susan Wloszczyna (Gold Derby). Moss plays June/Offred on the Hulu hit, a woman who lives as a concubine for the rich and powerful in a dystopian future. She’s submitted the episode “The Last Ceremony” for Emmy consideration.

The four Experts who think Oh will prevail are: Eric Deggans (NPR), Chris Harnick (E), Matthew Jacobs (HuffPo) and Ed Martin (Media Village). BBC America’s “Killing Eve” marks the sixth career Emmy nomination for Oh after earning five consecutive bids for “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-09). She portrays MI5 officer Eve Polastri who’s hot on the trail of international assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) in her episode submission “I Have a Thing About Bathrooms.”

And here are the four Experts predicting Russell: Jen Chaney (Vulture), Kerr Lordygan (Rotten Tomatoes), Ben Travers (Indiewire) and Matt Webb Mitovich (TVLine). Russell has long been a TV favorite thanks to her breakout role on “Felicity,” which earned her a Golden Globe in 1999. She is now on her third Emmy bid for FX’s “The Americans” (2016-18) for playing Russian spy Elizabeth Jennings and is hoping to win with her episode choice “The Summit.”

Gold Derby’s nine in-house Editors think that the real race is between Moss and Claire Foy (“The Crown”). Chris BeachumJoyce EngDaniel MontgomeryMatt Noble, Tom O’Neil and Susan Wloszczyna predict Moss, while Marcus James DixonRob Licuria and Paul Sheehan forecast an upset victory by Foy.

When the predictions of our Experts, Editors and Users are combined together, Moss earns leading 8/13 racetrack odds with Foy in second place at 6/1 odds. Following those two frontrunners on our combined chart, Oh comes in at 8/1 odds, followed by Russell at 10/1 odds, Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) at 50/1 odds and Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”) at 80/1 odds.
