Emmy nominations 2018: Which shows are up (and down) from last year?

While the 2018 Emmy nominations that were announced on July 12 were dominated by first-year shows, a number of veterans also figure in key categories. Indeed, buoyed by their strong showings at last year’s Emmy Awards, “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Atlanta” both saw a sharp rise in the number of nominations. Conversely, several shows that were red-hot last year for their first seasons, such as “Stranger Things” and “This Is Us,” suffered from sophomore slumps.

Below, we break down the returning series that are up and down by including the nomination counts from both this year and last. Be sure to check out the complete list of nominations.
