After previously foreseeing the downfalls of Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, “Family Guy” believes that it’s uncovered another Hollywood bigwig whose dirty secrets about to be exposed. 20th Century Fox Television’s clever Emmy FYC mailer was recently shipped to TV academy members with this declaration: “We predicted Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein. Open DVD to see who’s next.” Inside the package is … a mirror. Yes, that means YOU are Hollywood’s next sexual deviant!
Four-time Best Animated Program nominee “Family Guy” (2000, 2005-06, 2008) has yet to prevail in the top Emmy category, though its creator Seth MacFarlane took home three trophies for Best Character Voice-Over Performance (2000, 2016-17) and another for Best Music and Lyrics (2002). TV’s reigning Best Animated Program Emmy winner is fellow Fox comedy “Bob’s Burgers” (2014 and 2017).
This year Emmy voters received two “Family Guy” episodes on one DVD: #1611 “Dog Bites Bear” (written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and directed by John Holmquist) and #1612 “Send in Stewie, Please” (written by Gary Janetti and directed by Joe Vaux). Of note, “Dog Bites Bear” was the show’s landmark 300th episode, and the most-viewed episode of the entire 16th season.
In addition to shipping its 2018 FYC Emmy mailer to the entire TV academy membership, the animation studio has also provided a link for voters to watch even more original Fox programming (like “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers”) at their online screening room.
