Fifth Harmony are calling it quits — for now, at least. On March 19 the quartet announced that they’re going on hiatus in order to pursue solo careers. So which of the girl group’s members will have the most success on her own? Scroll down to read their complete announcement and to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
“In order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on a hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors,” said their statement. “In doing this we are allowing ourselves to gain new experiences, strengths and perspectives that we can bring back to our Fifth Harmony family.”
With this announcement Fifth Harmony follow a path eerily similar to that of British boy band One Direction, which split up for their own solo ventures in 2016. One Direction started as a group of five after appearing on “The X Factor,” just like Fifth Harmony did. Then One Direction unexpectedly lost one member, Zayn Malik, a year before their official hiatus, just like Fifth Harmony did when Camila Cabello decided to strike out on her own in late 2016. Now they’re all entering the music scene on their own: Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui.
The good news for Fifth Harmony if they continue to follow One Direction’s musical path is that each Directioner has already had some success with their solo efforts: Zayn, Harry Styles and Niall Horan have all released number-one albums on their own. But like Zayn, former Harmonizer Cabello got a big a head start in establishing herself as a solo act, releasing the number-one single “Havana” (featuring Young Thug) and following that with a complete album, “Camila,” that also topped the charts.
Another member has also already established herself as a solo star … in a way. Kordei appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” in season 24 and finished third. That wasn’t a solo musical venture, per se, but it did showcase her as an individual entertainer separate and apart from her band mates.
So who will be the biggest solo star from Fifth Harmony? Vote below to let us know.
