When Garth Brooks said “All hell has broken loose in our life because of Simon Cowell” during NBC’s Season 13 finale of “America’s Got Talent,” he meant it in a good way. At least, we think. Cowell had previously tasked the country music superstar to write a song for his Golden Buzzer act, father of six Michael Ketterer, for the “AGT” Finals, and Brooks just delivered big league. Ketterer sang Brooks’ original song titled “The Courage To Love” during the two-hour ender and earned a wild standing ovation from the Dolby Theatre crowd. “Garth, if you’re watching, I cannot tell you how much I love you for what you just did for this man,” Simon said over the wild shouting from the stuio audience. “People don’t do this normally and he took the time, wrote the song. Garth, I said this in an email and I want to say it to you in person: you are a gentleman and a star. And Michael, you are amazing.”
Later, host Tyra Banks announced the results of America’s live overnight vote and Michael was eliminated in fifth place. But he was all smiles before he walked off stage, revealing, “I get to perform that song with him on October the 20th at Notre Dame. Sold out!” Simon then told his Golden Buzzer performer, “You and I are gonna continue this relationship. You have been an absolute star throughout. I’m so sorry you didn’t make it, but it’s the way it goes.”
Michael’s elimination wasn’t the only one that shocked “AGT” viewers during Wednesday’s finale. Gold Derby’s frontrunner to win the $1 million prize was 14-year-old singer Courtney Hadwin, but she failed to even place in the Top 5. Instead, the Season 13 winner was close-up magician Shin Lim. Second place went to acrobatic group Zurcaroh, third place to electric violinist Brian King Joseph and fourth place to stand-up comedian Samuel J. Comroe.
