Gay couple OneUp is eliminated on ‘The Voice’ after coach Kelly Clarkson shows ‘Mercy’ to Kymberli Joye [WATCH]

Kelly Clarkson had a tough decision during Tuesday’s battle round episode of “The Voice” Season 15. After pairing up soul singer Kymberli Joye against gay couple OneUp to the song “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes, whose dreams would Kelly destroy? All three singers impressed from start to finish, so Kelly ultimately decided to cut OneUp from her team and advance Kymberli to the next round. Did Kelly make the right decision? Watch NBC’s “The Voice” battle video above and read the coaches’ comments below.

“Your passion came forward so much,” Kelly told OneUp and Kymberli after their dynamite performance. “You’re all three phenomenal vocalists. I just have to make a choice with whoever I feel like surprised me the most, and believe me when I tell you all of you did that. But the winner of this battle — and this is based on this performance and the blinds — is Kymberli.”

Jennifer Hudson was so impressed with both acts that she threw a book at them during their performance. Adam Levine said that “no decision would surprise him.” Blake Shelton noted that OneUp held his attention for most of the song until Kymberli “busted through” at the end. Alas, none of the other coaches used their steal on OneUp, so the season’s only duo was sent packing

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the battle: “Kymberli began the performance before OneUp joined in with harmony. The three voices blend nicely together before each act shows off their individual skills. They all sound great. Kymberli is fierce but OneUp has outstanding charisma. I’d give the slight edge to OneUp but Kelly can’t go wrong here. Whoever loses deserves a steal.”
