Among the biggest shockers in the 2019 Grammy nominations were the high-profile names excluded from the general field, including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Jay-Z. See the complete list of nominees here, and scroll down to see some of the most noteworthy snubs in the general field.
Though we thought Beyonce and Jay-Z — credited together as The Carters — might actually win Album of the Year for their joint album “Everything is Love,” they won’t get the chance since they weren’t even nominated. They only picked up three noms in genre categories: Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Love,” Best R&B Performance for “Summer” and Best Music Video for “Apeshit.”
Swift had another bestseller with “Reputation,” but the recording academy left it out of the Album of the Year lineup. She also didn’t make the cut for Record of the Year or Song of the Year for “Delicate.” Her only nomination this year came in Best Pop Vocal Album, which makes this her biggest Grammys shortfall when she has had an album in contention.
Grande was also let down. She was expected to be nominated for Album of the Year for “Sweetener,” but that category wasn’t so sweet to her. She was also left out of Record of the Year for “God is a Woman” and Song of the Year for “No Tears Left to Cry.” As in previous years she was relegated to pop categories: Best Pop Album for “Sweetener” and Best Pop Solo Performance for “God.”
