Hannahlei makes hip-hop look easy on ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ but will America take her for granted? [WATCH]

The last competitive live show on “So You Think You Can Dance” isn’t the time you’d necessarily want to trot out a brand new dance style, but that’s what happened to Hannahlei Cabanilla when she was given a hip-hop routine on Top 4 night. Not only was it her first hip-hop routine of the live shows, she was paired with season 10 winner Fik-Shun, so there was even more pressure for her to keep up. How do you think she did? Watch her routine above and decide for yourself.

Judge Twitch thought Cabanilla gave an “incredible” performance, especially for her first live hip-hop routine. “I’m having trouble finding words because I got so hyped for what was going on.” Nigel Lythgoe repeated a familiar refrain: “I don’t think there is anything you can’t do, Hannahlei. And not only can you do it, you can do it brilliantly.” Vanessa Hudgens admitted, “I’ve been rooting for you since day one … You do it all, and it’s just mind-blowing.”

Mary Murphy agreed with her fellow judges, telling Cabanilla, “What I don’t understand is all the intricate movement that you’re able to just grasp on to and make it look so easy.” Murphy did have one concern, but not with the performance. “I worry,” she explained, “because other dancers that made it look so easy in past seasons didn’t get the votes. I hope they vote for you.”

Could Cabanilla really be a victim of her own success? That’s possible since reality shows run on compelling narratives, and the other three finalists have them. Jensen Arnold is stepping out of the shadow of her big sister, “SYTYCD” and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Lindsay Arnold. Slavik Pustovoytov is a freestyler learning choreography for the first time and staging a miraculous comeback after a rough week. And Genessy Castillo was an underdog who overcame her insecurities to become a star.

Meanwhile, from what we’ve seen on the show, Cabanilla started a great dancer and she’s still a great dancer. That has helped her advance to the final four, but perhaps viewers voting at home will start to take her for granted since they can confidently rely on her to maintain that high level of quality. What do you think? Vote in our poll below to let us know if you think Cabanilla deserves to win “SYTYCD” season 15.
