HBO’s Top 10 Emmy winning comedy series: Where do ‘Silicon Valley,’ ‘Veep’ and more rank?

The political satire “Veep” became the first HBO series to win three Emmys in a top series category when it claimed Best Comedy Series consecutively from 2015-2017. But with its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus in treatment for breast cancer the show’s final season was delayed and will not compete at this year’s awards. But where does it rank among all HBO comedies in terms of its overall above-the-line victories? Click through our gallery above to find out. Can you guess what’s number-one?

When ranking HBO’s comedies by above-the-line awards, we’re looking specifically at Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Directing, Best Comedy Writing, and all six of the comedy acting categories.

“Veep” has been amply rewarded in those top races, but with its absence from this year’s race “Silicon Valley” steps out of its shadow in the hopes of finally taking home its first above-the-line win.

Meanwhile, “Barry,” starring Bill Hader and Henry Winkler, looks to make a splash in its first eligible year. Should veteran Winkler receive a nomination he should feel good about his chances as three different HBO shows have taken home a Best Comedy Supporting Actor trophy a combined six times, which makes it one of the most successful categories for HBO comedies.

And “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is back in the race for the first time since 2012. It has won once above the line (Best Comedy Directing in 2003), but Larry David has never won Best Comedy Actor and the show has never won Best Comedy Series.

The one above-the-line comedy category HBO has never won at all is Best Comedy Guest Actress; most recently Becky Ann Baker (“Girls”) was nominated last year, but was unable to take the prize home.

Below is a breakdown of the shows represented and total wins in each category:

Best Comedy Series: 2 Shows — 4 Total Wins

Best Comedy Directing: 4 Shows — 4 Total Wins

Best Comedy Writing: 2 Shows — 2 Total Wins

Best Comedy Actor: 1 Show — 1 Win

Best Comedy Actress: 2 Shows — 7 Total Wins

Best Comedy Supporting Actor: 3 Shows — 6 Total Wins

Best Comedy Supporting Actress: 1 Show — 1 Total Win

Best Comedy Guest Actor: 2 Shows — 2 Total Wins

Best Comedy Guest Actress: 0 Shows — 0 Total Wins
