Honey Boo Boo dodged a bullet on ‘Dancing with the Stars: Juniors,’ but is she on borrowed time? [WATCH]

There’s usually a “Dancing with the Stars” contestant every season who coasts on fan support despite lower judges’ scores. Alana Thompson might turn out to be that contestant in the inaugural season of “DWTS: Juniors.” The artist formerly known as Honey Boo Boo got the bottom score on Sunday night when the celebs danced to songs from the years they were born, but she survived elimination after studio audience votes were factored in. Did she deserve that reprieve? Watch her performance above and decide for yourself.

Thompson and her pro partner Tristan Ianiero danced to a hit song from her birth year, “Don’t Cha” by Pussycat Dolls (2005). Judge Adam Rippon said, “You come out here, and you own it,” though he also pointed out a moment during the routine “when you were walking around like you were at the mall.” Val Chmerkovskiy was “proud” of the performance and the transformation Thompson has made on the show thus far. And while Mandy Moore agreed with her fellow judges’ praises, she advised the young star to better control her timing.

The dance scored 6s from Chmerkovskiy and Moore and a 7 from Rippon for a total of 19 out of 30. That matched her score from week one, but this time those marks left her at the bottom of the leaderboard. It looked like she was doomed, especially since in week one the two lowest-scoring contestants (Tripp Johnston and Addison Osta Smith) had been the ones sent packing. But this time the studio audience voted to save the last-place contestant, leading to the surprise elimination of “General Hospital” actor Hudson West, who was tied for fourth place.

Did you agree with that result? Are you excited to see more of Thompson and her infectious personality?
