“So You Think You Can Dance” judge Nigel Lythgoe recently called Jay Jay Dixonbey and Jensen Arnold the best couple on the show due to their versatility, chemistry and technique, and the third week of live shows was no exception. They opened the show with a sexy, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”-style jazz number that the judges loved, even despite a wardrobe malfunction in the middle of the routine. Watch it above.
Both Arnold and Dixonbey were supposed to remove parts of their costumes during the dance, but “the skirt came off a little early,” Arnold explained. “I had to take my skirt off when I was supposed to take his jacket off. But we made it work.” Even Lythgoe was pleased. Though he criticized them for being too overtly sexual during a previous performance, this time he thought their dancing and Sean Cheesman‘s choreography were “brilliant.”

Nigel Lythgoe: “No one would have noticed [the wardrobe malfunction]. I must say, I loved Jessie J‘s version of that old James Brown song, and it was inspirational for Sean Cheesman your choreographer: it was a brilliant routine, a lot of fun in that. Jay Jay, you’re in your style, jazz, so I was expecting you to be good. The pirouettes were terrific. I loved the dive over here … [Jensen], whatever they throw at you you do brilliantly, and I’ve got to say you are the poster child of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ It’s everything you could ever want.”
Vanessa Hudgens: “What a way to start the show. That was so sexy, you guys — so much character, so much personality. There were a couple of moments that felt a little clunky at times. It’s difficult with the costumes and everything. Jay Jay, your personality came out roaring. Jensen, when you’re a dancer you’ve got to be a great actress and there were a couple of moments when I felt that you were anticipating a little bit, but that’s just being super nitpicky. Great work, you guys.”
Twitch: “So far I don’t know what this couple cannot do. Y’all are incredible. I’ve got nothing but praises for that. That was hot, that was steamy. Of course you’ve got the situations that happen, but look at the overall performance.”
Mary Murphy: “We were just talking about how less is more, and man oh man you guys hit it just right. The song alone was super sexy, and really I was worried about that. Was this not going to be PG? But you guys are PDG: pretty damn good dancers. Jay Jay, you’re strong, you hit everything. I agree, you guys do everything.”
