During Tuesday’s battle round episode of “The Voice,” 15-year-old singer Anthony Arya was cut by his coach Adam Levine after battling against Ben Affleck lookalike Steve Memmolo to Pure Prairie League‘s “Amie.” But before Anthony could leave the stage and return home, rival coach Jennifer Hudson hit her “steal” button for the talented teen. Are you happy that Anthony is now a member of Team Jennifer? Watch NBC’s “The Voice” battle video above and read the coaches’ comments below.
“I felt like Anthony held his own,” Jennifer said during the deliberation process. “I felt as if you’ve been doing this for a while. You have a lot of potential. And Steve, yeah, you came out of the gate on us. I think you both did great.” For his part, Adam said that he was “proud” of Anthony for the improvement that he showed so far. But ultimately it came down to the fact that “Steve is just more ready,” so that’s why he had to cut Anthony.
After Jennifer shocked the crowd by stealing Anthony, she announced, “He’s a gentleman. I’m sitting here like, ‘Is he crazy? You’re gonna let him go?'” Backstage Jennifer noted how Anthony seemed so “seasoned” for such a young age and that she’s excited for him to be a part of Team JHud.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the battle: “After watching five minutes of their rehearsals, for some reason we were only shown about half of the performance. It seemed pretty equal and uninspiring so perhaps that’s why. Jennifer thought both did great, but is impressed that Anthony is just 15 years old. Blake thought Steve was the one who stepped up to the plate and he would be Blake’s choice. But it’s Adam’s opinion that matters. Moving forward on Team Adam is … Steve!”
