Jensen Arnold fell just short on “So You Think You Can Dance,” finishing in second place behind winner Hannahlei Cabanilla in what host Cat Deeley said was the closest final vote in the show’s history. So maybe Mandy Moore will let Arnold keep her Emmy instead.
The “SYTYCD” season 15 finale took place the day after the Creative Arts Emmys, where Moore won Best Choreography for the second year in a row, though this was the first time she won for this series. Last year she prevailed for routines she created for “Dancing with the Stars.” To celebrate her win during Monday night’s finale, she even loaned her new trophy to the show, and it popped up in the kitchen.
During the finale each of the four finalists was given the opportunity to perform an encore of their favorite routine from the season, and Arnold picked her hip-hop number with Jay Jay Dixonbey to the song “Cookin” by Fat Joe, Remy Ma and French Montana featuring RySoValid. Choreographed by Randi and Hef, it featured the two dancers as chefs who nearly burn the house down. But instead they pulled an Emmy out of the oven, much to Moore’s delight.
Moore’s award was actually for routines she choreographed for the show last summer in season 14: the massive group number “Brand New” and the intimate duet “To Make You Feel My Love.” And while it was just Moore’s second career victory, it was the 11th win for the show in the race for Best Choreography, which makes it by far the most honored show in the category’s history. Before Moore’s victory Mia Michaels prevailed three times for the show. Wade Robson, Travis Wall and the duo Nappytabs have all won twice. And Tyce Diorio won once.
What did you think of what Arnold and Dixonbey cooked up in this special encore? We interviewed Moore this summer before she won her latest Emmy. Watch it below.
