“Jessica Jones” returns to Netflix for its long-awaited second season on International Women’s Day: March 8, 2018. Now the streaming service has unveiled a new trailer and key art for the show’s next chapter. Watch the trailer above, and scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the new poster.
This series is part of Netflix’s still-growing family of Marvel Comics superhero dramas, which also includes “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and most recently “The Punisher.” The first season of “Jessica Jones” premiered way back in November 2015, introducing Krysten Ritter as the title private detective who solves mysteries while working through private traumas of her own. The series took an extended hiatus so Jones could join her fellow Marvel heroes in the limited series crossover event “The Defenders,” which premiered last summer. But now she’s back with her own second adventure, which takes her deeper into her own past.
“I have 17 years of questions, and they are deep,” says Jones in the trailer, alluding to her family’s death long ago in a car accident and the mysterious experiments that gave her superhuman strength. But she adds, “It takes a monster to stop a monster.” Could she be alluding to the return of Kilgrave (David Tennant)? Kilgrave possessed advanced mind-control powers, which he once used to make Jessica his captive and slave. She defeated him with extreme prejudice in season one — she snapped his neck — but it has already been announced that he’ll be back in some form in season two. Is that him clapping ominously at the end of this trailer?
The preview also gives us a first look at a new character played by Oscar nominee Janet McTeer, who appears to have answers to Jessica’s questions about her past. But what will those answers be? And will Netflix make us wait another two-and-a-half years for season three? Watch the trailer above and check out the poster below.
