“Oh, I wasn’t going to get an Emmy anyway,” Goodman told paparazzi in a video obtained by “Entertainment Tonight.” “I’ve been up there 12 times already and if I don’t get one by now, I’m not gonna get one.”
For the record, Goodman has 11 career nominations and one win, for Best Drama Guest Actor on “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” If he’s talking specifically about going home empty-handed for “Roseanne,” he is correct: He never won for playing Dan Conner despite seven nominations for Best Comedy Actor. He is currently eighth in our predictions. If he does get in this year, an eighth loss would make him the biggest loser in the category.
“Roseanne,” the No. 1 show of the season, was one of ABC’s big pushes for the Emmys, where it has never been up for Best Comedy Series. The network suspended the FYC campaign shortly after canceling the revival Tuesday, hours after Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet comparing Valerie Jarrett to an ape.
Goodman had far less to say about Barr’s hateful comments and the cancellation. “I don’t know anything about it,” he said of the tweet. “I don’t read it.” The actor added that he’d “rather say nothing than to cause more trouble.”
