Justin Timberlake announces new album (‘Man of the Woods’) and release date: Will he earn Grammy redemption in 2019?

“This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I’ve ever written, where I’m from. And it’s personal,” says Justin Timberlake in his new video announcement for his upcoming new album, “Man of the Woods,” which will be released on February 2 with a new single to premiere this Friday, January 5. Watch the announcement above for snippets of new music and collaborators, including Pharrell Williams.

This is Timberlake’s first new album since he released “The 20/20 Experience” in two parts in 2013. That album earned him seven Grammy nominations and three wins in 2014, but he didn’t receive any bidsin the general field even though he was widely considered a strong contender to win Album of the Year after he contended for both of his previous albums, “Justified” (2004) and “FutureSex/LoveSounds” (2007). So he’s looking for redemption from the recording academy in 2019.

But don’t be sad for Timberlake. Since “20/20” he earned a pair of Album of the Year nominations as a featured artist on Pharrell’s “GIRL” and Beyonce‘s self-titled album in 2015. Then he earned his 10th Grammy win and first Oscar nomination in 2017 for his song “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the animated film “Trolls.” And on top of that he will be headlining the Super Bowl LII Halftime Show on February 4, two days after the album’s release. It’ll be his first Super Bowl appearance since his controversial performance in 2004 with Janet Jackson ended with a notorious wardrobe malfunction.

“Can’t Stop the Feeling” was released in May 2016 in advance of the release of “Trolls” later that fall, so his upcoming January 5 single will be his first in almost two years. “Can’t Stop” was also his fifth number-one single as a solo artist and sixth overall on the Billboard Hot 100. Will His new song and album get him back to the top of the charts?
