Katherine Langford (’13 Reasons Why’) on the impact of Hannah Baker & whether she’ll be in season 3 [WATCH]

13 Reasons Why” creator Brian Yorkey “was very open” with star Katherine Langford “that Hannah may not necessarily be a character who is in more than two to three seasons.” Langford joined her co-stars at Netflix’s Emmy FYSee event in Los Angeles on June 1 to discuss the impact of her character, Hannah Baker, on her life and career. She also explained whether audiences would see her again after the show’s second season, which premiered on Netflix on May 18. Watch above.

“I think when we finished filming season two it really felt like we were saying goodbye to Hannah,” Langford revealed. “‘13 Reasons Why‘ will always be a really special part of my life, and I mean that sincerely. Despite the fact that she won’t be in season three if the show gets picked up, I know for myself that I’m always going to carry her story with me and the incredible experience I’ve had and been able to share with this cast.”

13 Reasons Why” revolved around Hannah Baker in season one. When the series premiered she had already died by suicide, and the events leading up to her death are revealed through a series of audio cassettes that are shown to the audience in flashbacks. But season one exhausted Hannah’s tapes and her titular 13 reasons, so she returned in season two in ghostly visions to her heartbroken friend Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette).

“’13 Reasons Why’ was the first job I ever had, and I couldn’t have asked for a more impactful, sincere and incredible project with the most incredible and passionate people,” Langford said. So even though Hannah’s story appears to be over, she still hopes she “can be there for fans, even if it’s in a small capacity on social media.”
