Monday night during Night 7 of “The Voice” Season 15, newlywed Katrina Cain took on Fleetwood Mac‘s “Rhiannon” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs around: Blake Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. Katrina had a lot on the line as she canceled her honeymoon in order to audition for “The Voice.” Luckily Katrina’s gamble paid off and she wound up becoming the final artist of Blake’s Season 15 team. After Blake and Katrina bonded over her hometown of Denton, Texas, he added, “I love your voice and I gotta say, that was such like a mysterious version of that song.” Katrina responded that since the song is so important for women, she didn’t want to “make it like a big dance tune.” Blake said that the acoustic side of her voice worked for this version.
“Blake, I love you, but he just does country,” Jennifer declared when she was trying to keep Katrina from joining his team. “I have all types of records. You name it. So I think I would be a better fit.” Blake fired back that he’s won “The Voice” six different times with artists from all genres — see the winners list here. In the end Blake’s arguments won Katrina over, so she decided to complete his team.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “Next up was newlywed Katrina Cain who canceled her honeymoon to audition for the show with ‘Rhiannon’ by Fleetwood Mac. As an electro pop artist, Katrina’s rendition of the classic song was an interesting twist that immediately caught the ears of both Adam and Kelly, but their teams didn’t have room on them. Eventually Blake and Jennifer came to their senses and hit their buttons at the same time, giving Katrina a choice between the two. In the end, Katrina went with Blake.”
