Kelly Clarkson blocks Kymberli Joye from picking Jennifer Hudson on ‘The Voice’ after soulful ‘Run to You’ cover [WATCH]

Monday night during Night 3 of “The Voice” Season 15, soul singer Kymberli Joye took on Whitney Houston‘s “Run to You” and caused three coaches to turn their chairs around: Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton. Kelly knew that Kymberli would fit perfectly on Team Jennifer, so she used her one and only block of the season to make sure that Kymberli couldn’t pick her. Did the savvy move pay off for Kelly? Watch NBC’s “The Voice” blind audition video above and read the coaches’ comments below.

“I thought we was friends! Why would you do this?” asked a visibly annoyed Jennifer. And Kelly responded, “Because I don’t want to fight with you on this one. I just want her!” Blake tried his best to convince Kymberli to join his team, saying, “If Jennifer Hudson is out of the equation, the next obvious choice is Blake. I mean, come on.”

For her final pitch, Kelly declared, “All joking aside I think your voice is insane. Who can nail Whitney Houston like that? Like, that’s bold. I only get one block the entire season and I used it on you, Kymberli. That’s how much I love you.” When it was her turn to speak, Kymberli admitted that since Jennifer was blocked that meant she’d be joining Kelly’s team. Will she now make it all the way to the finals?

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “The final audition of the night came from gospel singer Kymberli Joye. Prior to trying out, she acknowledged that joining Jennifer’s team would be a ‘no brainer,’ but eyed Kelly’s team as a chance to grow and learn new aspects of her voice. Jennifer and Kelly were already fighting over her when they heard the first notes of Kymberli’s song choice (Whitney Houston‘s ‘Run to You’) play. Kelly was the first to hit her button while Jennifer waited until the first part of the chorus only to find that Kelly used the block on her! It wasn’t sealed for Kelly though because Blake also hit his button right at the end of the song and fought hard to get Kymberli on his team. In the end, Kymberli admitted that her choice was always going to be between Jennifer and Kelly and since Kelly used her block it meant that she would join Team Kelly!”
