Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Kenan Thompson is entering the “Saturday Night Live” episode hosted by John Mulaney as his Emmy submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. This installment aired April 14 and was the 18th episode of the 43rd season for the NBC show.
In this show, Thompson appears in a spoof of the documentary “Wild Wild Country,” as a 40-year-old lobster singing musical numbers in a restaurant and as loudmouth basketball father LaVar Ball. Enjoy our recent video chat with Thompson discussing this season of “SNL” and his career.
While this is Thompson’s first acting nomination, he was also in contention last year for Best Music and Lyrics for “SNL.” For the 2018 ceremony, he is up against reigning champ Alec Baldwin (“Saturday Night Live”), past winners Louie Anderson (“Baskets”) and Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), and former nominees Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”) and Henry Winkler (“Barry”).
