Kirk Jay’s ‘Body Like a Back Road’ performance floors Blake Shelton on ‘The Voice’: ‘That was incredible!’ [WATCH]

Monday, November 26 on “The Voice,” Kirk Jay took on Sam Hunt‘s “Body Like a Back Road” for Team Blake Shelton during the Top 11 performance episode. Kirk was emotional in the pre-taped video because his mother made it to Los Angeles to watch him perform for the first time, but you couldn’t tell on the live stage. As this was “Fan Night,” America got to pick which song each artist performed, but will Kirk earn enough votes to make it through to next week’s all-important Top 10? Watch “The Voice” live performance above and read the judges’ comments below.

Blake was clearly floored after Kirk’s performance. He stood up, knelt over his chair and said, “What the hell are you doing up there, man? That was incredible! Somehow he has mixed like George Strait with Rascal Flatts and he’s got all these different influences that are happening up there. Man, you are one of a kind and that’s special. I’m so happy for you and I’m so proud to be your coach. Vote for this guy, everybody. Do it!”

Blake is hoping to win his seventh “Voice” championship with Kirk after previously claiming victory with Jermaine Paul (Season 2), Cassadee Pope (Season 3), Danielle Bradbery (Season 4), Craig Wayne Boyd (Season 7), Sundance Head (Season 11) and Chloe Kohanski (Season 13). Will Kirk be the artist that wins the title for Team Blake, or might Dave Fenley or Chris Kroeze earn that honor?

Prior to this performance of “Body Like a Back Road,” Kirk sang “Bless the Broken Road” during the blind auditions, “Let It Rain” during the battles, “In Case You Didn’t Know” during the knockouts, “One More Day” during Top 26 week and “I’m Already There” during Top 13 week.

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the live performance: “Kirk is starting off at the keyboard and I’m already digging his soulful take on this country hit. He’s a bit stiff throughout the second verse and I’m waiting for him to loosen up. Finally he makes his way to the crowd and seems to settle into the song a bit better. It wasn’t my favorite performance from Kirk, but he’s so charismatic he should easily be safe. Jennifer and Blake were on their feet.”
