“Wonder Woman 2” has lined up a f(el)ine person to play the villain: Kristen Wiig. The “Saturday Night Live” alum will portray Cheetah in the upcoming sequel, director Patty Jenkins confirmed on Twitter on Friday.
“So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family,” she wrote, tagging star Gal Gadot. “Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Gadot also tweeted her excitement at Wiig’s casting. “This is going to be WONDERful!” she wrote.
Wiig, who gave a chilling turn in “mother!” last year, had reportedly been in talks for the role since last month. A feline-like foe with superhuman speed and strength, Cheetah first appeared in the DC Comic in 1943 and has been through four incarnations, so Jenkins and Wiig will have a lot to draw from.
Jenkins is writing the sequel script with DC Comics head Geoff Johns and David Callaham (“The Expendables”). So far Gadot and Wiig are the only confirmed cast members.
“Wonder Woman 2” is slated to hit theaters Nov. 1, 2019.
