Monday night on “The Voice,” Kyla Jade represented Team Blake Shelton during the live Top 24 episode of Season 14. Kyla belted out the gospel classic “How Great Thou Art” and was immediately voted through to the Top 12 based on America’s live results. Kyla’s fellow teammates (Austin Giorgio, Pryor Baird, Gary Edwards, Spensha Baker and Wilkes) will get another shot to advance to the finals when they perform on Tuesday’s live episode. “I wanna say something that’s pretty simple, really,” Blake said after his six artists performed. “I mean, I thought I had a good team, honestly. But I didn’t realize that you were all that freaking good, man. Seriously. You come into this thing as talented people, but you find out what you guys are made of really in these live rounds and every single one of you — all six of you — stepped up to the place. God, great job, all of you.”
“There’s nothing obvious here to me,” Blake added just before host Carson Daly made the big announcement that Kyla was America’s choice to advance to the Top 12. Kyla looked dumbfounded when she learned the good news. She froze at first and then walked across the stage as Blake wrapped her in a giant bear hug.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty wrote, “Stunning. I really have no words! I’m not sure how many votes a pure gospel song like this can bring in, but if you judges by vocal talent alone then Kyla is at the top of your list. She also got pretty emotional which is really great to see from any artist on any track.”
