Tuesday night during Night 6 of “The Voice” Season 15, Colombian singer Lela took on Camila Cabello‘s “Havana” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs around: Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson. The 15-year-old artist said that she was only seven years old when she started dancing and singing, the same age Jennifer was when she started. Despite Kelly expressing her love of bilingual artists, Lela opted to join Team JHud. Watch NBC’s “The Voice” blind audition video above and read the coaches’ comments below.
“Do you dance?” Jennifer asked Lela after she finished her performance. “I was like, that girl’s got some moves. I can tell.” While Jennifer focused on Lela’s dancing, Kelly kept trying to turn the tables back to her bilingual singing. Kelly smiled, “I love when y’all start singing in Spanish. I think it’s such a cool part of radio right now, too. I don’t think there’s enough people doing it. Nobody’s done that this season. It was so cool.”
As for the other judges, Adam Levine said that he didn’t push his button for Lela because his team was filling up and he had to be “crazy picky.” And Blake Shelton divulged that he’s “excited to see what happens” with her going forward. Will Lela end up being Jennifer’s first champion?
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Kevin Jacobsen had this to say about the performance: “Lela, who is just 15 years old, hails from Miami, Florida and lives with her big Colombian family. She’s singing the popular ‘Havana’ by Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug. Kelly loves the song choice right off the bat and vibes with her, turning her chair eagerly. After some consideration upon listening to Lela’s vocal runs, Jennifer decides to turn her chair right before she’s finished. Kelly finds Lela refreshing compared to what’s on the radio now and Jennifer agrees. Kelly says she wants Lela to to keep going the bilingual route. But ultimately Lela goes with Team JHud as her coach.”
