Maddie Poppe has sung eight songs so far on “American Idol” and viewers think that a whopping six of these were real winners. In our poll, all of her performances to date but two (her duet with Colbie Caillat on “Bubbly” and her cover of The Bangles‘ hit “Walk Like an Egyptian) merited at least 10% of the total tally.
Of these half dozen tunes, the Simon & Garfunkel standard “Homeward Bound,” which Poppe performed on the Top 14 show alongside “Walk Like an Egyptian,” is in the lead with 19% of the vote. Right behind, with 17% each as of this writing, are “Nothing Compares 2 U” which Prince wrote for Sinead O’Connor and Melanie‘s classic “Brand New Key.”
Poppe’s cover of Sheryl Crow‘s “If It Makes You Happy” is at 15%, her version of Janis Joplin‘s “Me and Bobby McGee” sits at 14% and her rollicking rendition of “The Bare Necessities” from the Disney animated classic “The Jungle Book” comes in with a lucky 13% of the vote.
