“Ant-Man and the Wasp,” which opened on July 6, is the 20th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that kicked off with the 2008 release “Iron Man.” In this newest entry in the MCU, the Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) returns and teams up with the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) to uncover secrets from their past. It was well-received by the critics. and merited an impressive score of 88 at Rotten Tomatoes.
To date, the first 19 titles have earned a jaw-dropping $17 billion at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing film franchise of all-time. Not surprisingly, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” topped the box office in its first weekend of domestic release, taking in an impressive $76 million. That was 33% more than the first film that focused on this mite sized super-hero, 2015’s “Ant-Man.” And it bettered on that movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score of 82.
