Matt Smith (‘The Crown’) Emmy episode revealed for Best Drama Supporting Actor (Exclusive)

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Matt Smith is entering “The Crown” episode “Mystery Man” as his Emmy submission for Best Drama Supporting Actor. This installment streamed December 8 and was the 10th episode of the second season for the Netflix show.

In this segment, Philip (Smith) must see his doctor after a workout injury. Speculation ramps up that he might be involved in the Profumo Affair. He and Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) have a major fight while staying in Scotland during her latest pregnancy. He then offers an apology of sorts by making her think their marital problems and his infidelity are either imaginary or her fault. Enjoy our recent video chat with Smith discussing this season and his career.

Smith is a first-time nominee at the Emmy Awards. For the 2018 ceremony, he is up against two-time champ Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) and past winner Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”), returning nominee David Harbour (“Stranger Things”), plus rookie contenders Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (“Game of Thrones”) and Joseph Fiennes (“The Handmaid’s Tale”).
