Matthew Rhys (‘The Americans’) Emmy episode revealed for Best Drama Actor (Exclusive)

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Matthew Rhys is entering “The Americans” episode “START” as his Emmy submission for Best Drama Actor. This installment aired May 30 and was the 10th and final episode of the series for the FX show.

In this segment, Philip Jennings (Rhys) is on the run after almost being caught in an FBI sting operation. His wife Elizabeth (Keri Russell) joins him, and they decide their daughter will travel with them on the journey back to their home country of Russia but they will leave their son behind in high school. After a showdown with their friend and agent Stan (Noah Emmerich), he lets them escape. They end the series looking out over the Russian landscape.

Rhys now has his third straight nomination for this role and was also nominated last year for guest starring on “Girls.” For the 2018 ceremony, he faces off against reigning champ Sterling K. Brown and his “This Is Us” co-star Milo Ventimiglia. The other contenders are “Westworld” co-stars Ed Harris and Jeffrey Wright plus previous nominee Jason Bateman (“Ozark”).
