Mirai Nagasu isn’t the only one who considers Meryl Davis the queen. The ice dancer is our readers’ favorite Olympian who’s taken home the Mirrorball trophy, receiving 23 percent of the vote in a recent poll.
Davis, who dominated Season 18, is one of six Olympians who have won “Dancing.” Adam Rippon became No. 6 after Monday’s “Athletes” finale, joining Olympic champs Davis, Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson and Laurie Hernandez.
Rippon was just behind Davis, with 20 percent. The Olympic bronze medalist is the first male figure skater and third overall to win. Previously, 2010 Olympic champ Evan Lysaeck placed second on Season 10 and Davis’ ice dancing partner Charlie White was fifth on Season 18.
Tied in third with 17 percent are Season 6 champ Yamaguchi and Season 23 winner Hernandez, respectively. Yamaguchi was the first figure skater to prevail, while then-16-year-old Hernandez is the show’s youngest champ ever.
Next with 14 percent of the vote is Ohno, who was the first Olympian to win “Dancing,” triumphing in Season 4. The most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian, the short track speed skater later finished fifth on the all-stars season.
Bringing up the rear with 9 percent is Johnson. The gymnast was 17 when she won Season 8 and held the “youngest champ” record until Hernandez dethroned her. She was also runner-up in the all-stars edition.
