Michael J. Fox already holds the record for the most Emmy nominations in Best Drama Guest Actor at seven, but he can he could distance himself even further from the pack with an eighth nomination this year. The five-time Emmy winner is in the middle of a five-episode guest arc on “Designated Survivor” as Ethan West, a high-powered attorney hired by Kiefer Sutherland’s President Kirkman.
Now, “Designated Survivor” is far from an Emmy darling. The political thriller was barely a blip on the Emmy radar last year, but Fox is an Emmy fave. A 17-time acting nominee, he could get in on his name and reputation alone, and he’s already in 11th place in our odds.
Fox has three Emmys at home for “Family Ties,” one for “Spin City” and one for his guest appearance on “Rescue Me.” He has also accrued five nominations in the drama guest actor category for “The Good Wife.” Six years ago, he was double nominated for his guest spots on “The Good Wife” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
There is a tie for the second most nominations in the category between Beau Bridges and Robert Morse at five apiece. Bridges, however, can increase his count this year as well with a nomination for “Homeland.”
Currently, reigning champ Gerald McRaney tops our predictions, followed by his “This Is Us” co-star Ron Cephas Jones, who was nominated in supporting last year, Bradley Whitford (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Cameron Britton (“Mindhunter”), Jimmi Simpson (“Westworld”) and Matthew Goode (“The Crown”).
