During Tuesday’s battle round episode of “The Voice,” Jennifer Hudson pitted Mike Parker against Natasia GreyCloud to John Mayer‘s “Gravity.” Since these were two of Jennifer’s strongest artists, it was a safe bet to assume that whichever person got eliminated would be stolen by another coach, and that’s exactly what happened. After Jennifer advanced Mike to the next round, none other than Kelly Clarkson swooped in to steal Natasia for her team. Watch NBC’s “The Voice” battle video above and read the coaches’ comments below.
“I feel like you both brought something very special to the table,” Jennifer told Mike and Natasia after their show-stopping number. “Mike, your choices are just always dead on. Natasia, you just simply have an outstanding instrument and somehow you all even out. Dang, I don’t want to do this. I can’t go for vocals because I think you’re both evenly great. So how do I decide? I think I’m gonna have to go for strategy. The winner of this battle is Mike.”
Perhaps Jennifer’s “strategy” comment was in reference to the fact that Kelly fought hard for Natasia back in the blind auditions and that by picking Mike, Jennifer knew that she’d be safe? Whatever the case, Kelly was impressed with Natasia’s “head voice” and the way it goes to full throttle and back again. “Natasia’s voice can go pretty and angelic, but it can also belt out and be super soulful [with] effortless runs,” Kelly divulged.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the battle: “Mike begins the song and has a nice, clear tone. Natasia seamlessly joins in with some harmony before taking over. Kelly leaps to her feet as Natasia shows off her range. This is definitely the duo of the night! Natasia’s vocals are soaring and Mike is so much more relaxed than he was during his audition. He’s got the star quality. Who will Jennifer choose? And who will be stolen?”
