Miles Brown spent virtually the entire season of “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” as the highest-scoring contestant, and I thought that was a well deserved mantle for the “Black-ish” star. During the last episode of the show’s inaugural season he and his fellow finalists performed Christmas-themed freestyle routines, and Brown took a fantastic “Sleigh Ride” to a hip-hop wonderland. Watch his performance above.
Judge Val Chmerkovskiy thought the routine was especially “exceptional” for the impact it might have on viewers: “What you are doing for boys who are too afraid to pursue this, they will now have the courage to do it.” Mandy Moore added, “You have the mark of a true performer. You are dynamic. You have swag and style in the palm of your hand.” And Adam Rippon thought Brown was a “superstar.”
That performance earned Brown 10s across the board for a total of 30 out of 30. But even though he had the best judges’ scores throughout the season, this was only the second time he got a perfect score on the show, and the first time he got it on his own. He previously received a 30 during the Semi-Finals for his duos dance with Mackenzie Ziegler.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for Brown to win the season. When the judges’ scores from the Semi-Finals and Finals were added together he was in third place with 116 out of 120, and the studio audience votes from both weeks weren’t enough to overcome that deficit. Instead, it was skateboarder Sky Brown who ended up prevailing after a flawless night when she received two perfect 30s from the judges. Do you think that was the right result?
