Milo Manheim astounded ‘Dancing with the Stars’ judges with his freestyle: ‘My mind is blown!’ [WATCH]

Milo Manheim has been one of the top “Dancing with the Stars” competitors all season, and he came into the season finale as the only finalist whose pro partner, Witney Carson, had won a Mirror Ball Trophy before (in season 19 with Alfonso Ribeiro). That meant she knew exactly how to choreograph a routine worthy of a win. So how was it? Watch it above and vote in our polls below to let us know what you thought of the results.

Carson took a risk with Manheim’s freestyle routine, incorporating umbrellas into their dance to “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers. Luckily the teenage celeb didn’t drop the prop, and then he and his partner finished the routine with a shadow dance while splashing in the water. It was evocatively staged, and Manheim executed it as well as any other performance the gifted youngster has given on the show.

“My mind is blown,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba in response to the routine. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a freestyle with that much content,” and she thinks Manheim has “grown from a boy to a man” — easy, Carrie Ann, he’s still only 17! Len Goodman loved how much versatility Manheim showed from his first dance of the night (a re-do of his New York City Night Charleston) to his more serious freestyle: “totally different, full of control, full of drama.” Bruno Tonioli also raved about Manheim’s versatility, telling him, “You’re a star.”

A star? Yes. A Mirror Ball champion? … Um, no. While it looked like a battle between Manheim and Evanna Lynch for the trophy according to our predictions, Bobby Bones ended up stealing the prize despite having the lowest total score of the night — a shocking end to a shocking season. What did you think of Manheim’s freestyle and that twist ending? Vote below.
