Cardi B leads MTV Video Music Awards with 10 nominations, but the VMAs also went ‘Apesh*t’ for Beyonce and Jay-Z

The 2018 MTV Video Music Award nominations were announced on Monday, July 16, and Cardi B leads the way with 10 nominations including Video of the Year for “Finesse” with Bruno Mars. How many awards will she win? Scroll down to see the list of nominations by artist.

Cardi B was helped by the sheer number of artists she worked with over the past year. Only three of her nominations are as a lead artist: Artist of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Hip-Hop Video (“Bartier Cardi”). She’s a featured artist on her other seven noms. Five of those are for “Finesse”: Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Choreography and Best Editing in addition to the aforementioned bid for Video of the Year. And the last two are for “Dinero” with Jennifer Lopez: Best Collaboration and Best Latin Video.

But while Cardi B is the most nominated artist, there’s no single video with more support than “Apeshit” by Beyonce and Jay-Z. That dynamic duo is nominated eight times, and all of those nominations are for that video, which they famously shot in the Louvre in Paris. It’s up for Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, and four other professional categories for its cinematography, art direction, choreography and editing.

Childish Gambino isn’t far behind. His much-discussed video for “This is America” is up for seven awards, also including Video of the Year and Best Direction. The pointed political imagery from the clip made it a viral sensation and helped Childish achieve his first ever number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100.

The artist also known as Donald Glover is also celebrating a massive windfall at the Emmys, where he’s nominated for five Awards including Best Comedy Series for “Atlanta.” He won two Emmys last fall, and earlier this year he picked up his first ever Grammy Award. Now he’s looking to take home his first Moonman.

See who else cleaned up in the VMA nominations below. The awards will be held on Monday night, August 20, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
