Natalia Azoqa (‘Survivor’ 37) exit interview: My tribal council comment ‘foreshadowed my future’ [PODCAST]

“I think I foreshadowed my future for sure,” Natalia Azoqa tells us the morning after her “Survivor: David vs. Goliath” blindside was shown on TV. Following the dreaded tribe swap, Natalia had a numbers advantage with her, Alec Merlino and Kara Kay being former Goliaths and Elizabeth Olson and Davie Rickenbacker being former Davids. But when Natalia made the comment to Jeff Probst that she’d still be happy even if she went home “guns a-blazin,” it may have sealed her fate in Season 37, Episode 4. Listen to our “Survivor” exit interview above.

“I was like basically telling a prophecy and it came to life in that moment, you know?” Natalia laughs. “There’s a part of me that thinks if I didn’t said that would that have all transpired? Like, did I will my fate? You never know in the game what’s gonna happen and I am happy that I went out with a bang and I said everything I needed to say.” After the vote Natalia made waves when she instructed Alec to stop smiling and asked Kara whether she knew about the blindside, however she doesn’t “regret one moment of tribal council at all.”

Alec ended up betraying his Goliath alliance when he sided with Elizabeth and Davie to eliminate Natalia, but she “definitely had a feeling that something was going wrong.” As Natalia explains. “You see me kind of not really feeling comfortable on the Vuku tribe. I just felt like Alec was really connecting with Davie, Kara was really connecting with Elizabeth.”

As for how she knew that Alec might turn on her, Natalia reveals, “He wasn’t giving me reassurance. He wasn’t looking at me. He wasn’t giving me eye contact. That was telling me he’s lying. So there was a lot of self-doubt and I think it starts blowing up in my face and my craziness starts to come out a little bit because I was just really unsure of what he was thinking. At tribal council it kind of solidified my thoughts.”

Also in our “Survivor” podcast, Natalia tell us whether Carl Boudreaux‘s impending addition to the tribe weighed on their minds, what “big move” she wished she could have made, and which Goliath tribe member she would have loved to be placed with instead of Alec. Listen to our prior exit interviews with Pat Cusack, Jessica Peet, Jeremy Crawford and Bi Nguyen.
