Nicole Kidman’s great awards run continued Thursday when she won Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress for “Big Little Lies” at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Now, the Emmy and Golden Globe champ only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award to complete a sweep of the four major televised awards. The SAG is not just the only prestigious acting trophy missing from her collection for “Big Little Lies,” but it’s also the only prestigious one she’s never won.
Kidman has an 0-9 record at the SAGs, losing even for her Oscar-winning performance 15 years ago for “The Hours” to Renee Zellweger (“Chicago”). But she has commanding 2/13 odds, according to our latest predictions, to finally claim her first SAG at the ceremony on Sunday, January 21. Jessica Lange (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) is in second with 18/1 odds, followed by Kidman’s two “Big Little Lies” co-stars Laura Dern (33/1 odds) and Reese Witherspoon (50/1 odds). Susan Sarandon (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) rounds out the field at 66/1 odds.
Kidman has faced and defeated all of them at the Emmys, Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards (Sarandon wasn’t nominated at Critics’ Choice) except for Dern, who made the cut in this category since SAG doesn’t have supporting TV races. Dern, lest we forget, has been on her own win streak, with Emmy, Globe and Critics’ Choice victories as well.
If Kidman is finally victorious at SAG, she’d be the fourth person to bag the Emmy, Globe, Critics’ Choice Award and SAG for a TV movie/limited series performance after Julianne Moore (“Game Change”), Michael Douglas (“Behind the Candelabra”) and Sarah Paulson (“The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”). Her “Big Little Lies” husband Alexander Skarsgard has a shot to do this as well, but his 8/5 SAG odds have him in second place behind Robert De Niro (“The Wizard of Lies”), who leads with 10/11 odds.
