Singer Daniel Emmet made his way to the “America’s Got Talent” Finals thanks to belting out a mix of classic opera tunes and pop songs, and he decided to go the pop route on Tuesday night. Daniel took on Ed Sheeran‘s “Perfect,” though he notably transformed it by singing an Italian version. Will Daniel be named the winner of “AGT” 2018? Mel B: “You know what? I’m glad you brought it back to your original sound when you’re speaking Italian. I don’t understand a word you’re saying, but I absolutely just love it. I love the way that you stretch those notes out, the way you roll your R’s. I am just in heaven right now. Give me a minute.”
Heidi Klum: “Daniel, Daniel. I mean, you really have had your ups and downs, but you have been unstoppable. You’ve been a fighter, you’ve been a great performer, and you have this most beautiful voice. You have definitively been one of my favorites this season. So good luck to you.”
Simon Cowell: “You needed that performance, I think. Not just for the show but for yourself. So that whatever happens in this competition you can walk away on the big night saying, ‘I gave the best performance,’ which you did tonight. It was by far your best. It was powerful. It was just way better than last week, apart from the jacket, which isn’t great.”
Howie Mandel: “You know, you have fought and you deserve to be here. What you did probably can be considered perfection. The luck of the draw is you have to follow Brian King Joseph and we’ll see what comes next. Hopefully it does stick out, but that’s up to America. They gotta vote. Thank you.”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “The second act tonight is opera singer Daniel Emmett. His entire journey has been a total cluster…uh, challenge. He had to audition with two songs, was cut, came back as a wildcard and clobbered his way into the finals with two Duncan saves. But the resilient vocalist hopes to bring it home, belting out ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran. Apparently it’s rule of thumb to translate any pop song to Italian to make it opera. Daniel sounds great and he always has. He’s a pure, genuine singer that won’t win but the man can SING.”
