‘Orange Is the New Black’ season 6 trailer teases July 27 premiere date for streaming on Netflix

Netflix starts streaming season six of “Orange is the New Black” on July 27. That is just a few weeks before Emmy voters are set to cast their final ballots. We expect season 5 of “OITNB” to figure prominently in the Emmy Awards nominations announced on July 12. Reviews for those 13 episodes of “OITNB,” which took place over the three days of a prison riot spurred by the death of Poussey (Samira Wiley), were some of the strongest for the series to date.

Many critics praised the decision to plot 13 hours of drama over such a compressed time period. So, what happens next on ‘OITNB’? According to the new trailer, which you can watch above, the inmates will be leaving Litchfield Penitentiary for good. They are moved to a maximum security prison as punishment for rising up agains the powers that be at their one-time home.

The action-packed trailer includes shots of all the leading players in this Emmy-winning drama save one, Laura Prepon as Alex. The actress is still signed to the show and it is thought that her character has been taken to a different facility but will make her way back to reunite with her new fiancee Piper (Taylor Schilling) sometime in season six.

While Prepon is MIA, Lori Petty returns after an absence of one season in the riveting role of Lolly. She was last seen being carted off to the psychiatric wing at the end of season four and it looks like Lolly is back for good.
