‘Orange Is the New Black’ Season 6 spoilers: Do Piper and Alex get prison-married? Who is granted early release?

Netflix’s Emmy-winning “Orange is the New Black” returned on July 27 and streamed the entire sixth season all at once. If you’re just dying to know how it ends but don’t have the time to binge all 13 episodes, then you’ve come to the right place! Below, see six “Orange”-tastic spoilers from the finale episode, titled “Be Free,” and then sound off down in the comments section about what you thought of Season 6.

1. Piper and Alex

After previously getting engaged, Litchfield Penitentiary Maximum Security’s power couple Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon) spoke at length in Season 6 about getting prison-married. Well, they finally made it official in the finale. After Piper was granted early release from Litchfield (more on that below), Alex decided to surprise her with a pop-up wedding. Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) served as the officiant while Lorna (Yael Stone) was the very pregnant witness. Later, Black Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) and Flaca (Jackie Cruz) also appeared to give their blessings and congratulate Piper on getting out, which brings us to …

2. Early release

Piper and Sophia (Laverne Cox) were given early release from Litchfield, along with about a dozen other characters who we didn’t recognize. When Piper got too close to figuring out a drug ring involving Daya (Dascha Polanco), her mother Aleida (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and a prison guard, the guard changed Piper’s papers and sent her home so that they couldn’t be found out. Meanwhile, Sophia was released as a thank-you, along with $300,000 cash, for not agreeing to talk about the brutal conditions she and many of the others had to endure.

3. False hope

One other main character was supposed to be released, joining Piper and Sophia, but it was all a big con. Unfortunately for Blanca (Laura Gomez), she left Litchfield and then was turned over immediately to ICE, as her husband eagerly waited along with all of the other family members. It turned out that new PolyCon Vice President Linda (Beth Dover) created a detention center for illegal immigrants as a way to show her power in her new position, and Blanca was one of the first victims.

4. Sisterly love

One of the major through-lines of Season 6 was the rivalry between C-Block and D-Block, instigated by sisters Carol (Henny Russell) and Barbara (Mackenzie Phillips). Their rivalry came to a head in the finale when they tried to create a block war on the kickball field so that they could sneak into Frieda’s (Dale Soules) area and kill her for all of the trouble she caused them decades ago. But their hatred was too strong and they ended up murdering each other in cold blood while waiting for the kickball war to start, which never did.

5. Solitary confinement

When the season ended two of our fan-faves were in solitary confinement: Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and Red (Kate Mulgrew). Gloria discovered that the guards were playing a game where they received points every time prisoners got into fights and she threatened to expose their secrets. And Red couldn’t stop herself from attacking her former friend Freida outside the visiting room for her betrayal involving the murder of Piscatella (Brad William Henke).

6. Taystee’s verdict

For her part in last season’s riot, Taystee (Danielle Brooks) became the “fall girl” for Piscatella’s death. She went to trial for his murder, even as former warden Caputo (Nick Sandow) tried to prove that she was innocent by questioning the real killer, the leader of the CERT Team. After she was found guilty, Taystee broke into tears and was handcuffed and then shipped back to Litchfield. Two people know the truth about who really murdered Piscatella: Black Cindy and Suzanne (Uzo Aduba). But they’re not talking … yet. Bring on Season 7!
