Huzzahs to Gold Derby user Ryan Casselman for producing this handy-dandy video that does a rather smart job explaining the mysterious, convoluted, antediluvian process of voting for Best Picture at the Oscars. We’re talking about that whackadoodle preferential ballot that keeps triggering jaw-dropping upsets.
Casselman describes himself: “I’m a filmmaker from San Diego, but now living in the Los Angeles area. I’ve been interested in the Oscars for many years now and have been a member of Gold Derby for probably over 5 years. For the last few years, I’ve been included in the Top 24 All Stars for Oscar Nominations, which I wear as a badge of honor. Ultimately, I’m a filmmaker first and an Oscarologist second.”
