The Best Picture race at the 2018 Oscars is tricky to predict. On one hand Gold Derby’s in house editorial team are saying “The Shape of Water” will prevail with 4/5 odds. However, the group of experts from around the web are saying “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri” is leading with 11/8 odds. Is “Shape of Water” hurt because movies about monsters don’t seem serious enough for the academy? That’s a theory I float in my outrageous “Shape of Water” parody (watch above) where — just like Sally Hawkins‘ character — I’m keeping my own blue creature in the bathroom. Expect my monster can talk up quite a storm. You won’t believe what this precocious wise guy has to say about monster movies at the Oscars!
“The Shape of Water” is a fairy tale for adults. It tells the story of an woman (Hawkins) who can’t speak who discovers a blue scaled creature from South America. She connects with the creature over music and boiled eggs. Then she tries to help it escape the government facility where she works as a cleaner.
Regardless of the Best Picture outcome editors and experts agree this touching, dark and magical film is out front to win Guillermo del Toro his first Oscar for directing. Find out who wins at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 4.
