For the first two weeks of “Project Runway All Stars” season six Amanda Valentine led our predictions for who would win, but going into tonight’s third episode there has been a big change in our standings. Now Merline Labissiere has taken over the top spot. Do you agree with our forecasts?
Our racetrack odds are based on the combined predictions of the users who have made their picks at Gold Derby, and as of this writing Labissiere leads with odds of 8/5. That translates to a 39.14% chance of winning the season, so it’s hardly an open-and-shut case at this early stage of the competition. At this point last fall in season 16 of the original “Project Runway” series, we had no idea that Kentaro Kameyama would end up going all the way.
But the early signs for Labissiere are strong. She won the very first challenge of the season, designing a fall collection along with her fellow “rookie” contestants who have never competed on “All Stars” before. Winning the first challenge doesn’t necessarily guarantee later success, but then Labissiere was one of the top designers in the episode two challenge, “Damsels in Distress,” which required the contestants to create post-apocalyptic looks. With so many designers still in the competition, to stand out as one of the best for two weeks in a row is a significant accomplishment, especially in challenges as dissimilar as the ones that started the season.
Labissiere’s rise pushes Valentine down to second place with 9/2 odds, or a 17.78% chance of winning — that’s a big drop, but she could certainly recover with one or two standout challenges. Fabio Costa ranks third with 9/1 odds (9.96% chance of winning), while Ari South continues to gain momentum slowly but surely with 11/1 odds (8.29% chance of winning).
