Third time proved to be the charm for Anthony Williams when he won season 6 of “Project Runway All Stars” on April 5. The Atlanta, Georgia native had first competed on season 7 of the main show in 2010, where he placed fifth. He then contended in the first season of “All Stars” in 2012 and placed ninth.
Williams’ win was even more impressive, given that he was going up against two designers — Fabio Costa and Stanley Hudson — who had done much better than him in their previous appearances on this reality competition franchise. Costa had been the runner-up on season 10 of the main show and placed fifth on season four of “All-Stars.” And Hudson had been third on season 11 of “Project Runway.”
Williams is the third “All Stars” winner to have come out on top despite losing the main show. The first season of “All Stars” was won by Mondo Guerra, who had been the runner-up in season eight of “Project Runway.” And Anthony Ryan Auld won season two of “All Stars” despite finishing in seventh place on season nine of “Project Runway.”
The other three “All Stars” champs had previously won their seasons of “Project Runway”: Seth Aaron Henderson (season seven of “Runway,” season three of “All Stars”), Dmitry Sholokhov (season 10 of “Runway,” season four of “All Stars”) and Dom Streater (season 12 of “Runway,” season five of “All Stars”).
