Monday night on “The Voice,” country singer Pryor Baird represented Team Blake Shelton during the live Top 8 episode of Season 14. For this all-important semifinals show, Pryor decided to take on Eric Clapton‘s “Change the World” as it perfectly straddles genres between country and soul. Do YOU think that Pryor will advance to the Season 14 finale of NBC’s reality TV show? Watch “The Voice” performance video above.
“Pryor, you know why I think America has fallen in love with you?” Blake asked his resident country artist. “First of all, because you’re an incredible singer. But also Pryor seems like that guy that lives next door — that great guy that you know that lives next door that will come over, fix the house when the tree falls on it, whatever. And I want people out there to know that, no matter what happens, he really is that guy. I’ll see you in the finale.”
Pryor’s other performances on “The Voice” so far have included “I Don’t Need No Doctor,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Will It Go Round in Circles,” “I Was Wrong,” “9 to 5” and “Pickin’ Wildflowers,” “Night Moves” and “My Town.” How does “Change the World” stack up to Pryor’s other songs? Let us know down in the comments section.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty declared, “Here [Pryor] puts a heavy country spin on it, but maintains the rock and soul elements in a way that makes total sense for him as an artist. What’s most striking about his performance though is how happy he is to be singing it (he dedicated it to his wife). This was a really strong performance from Pryor and could give him the extra push to make it to the finals.”
