Tuesday night on “The Voice,” Rayshun LaMarr from Team Adam Levine and D.R. King from Team Kelly Clarkson were named America’s bottom two artists in the live Top 12 results episode. Both singers were given the chance to sing for America’s instant save, with Rayshun choosing to perform Tina Turner‘s “I Can’t Stand the Rain.” After the performance America voted live to send Rayshun through to next week’s Top 11, thereby eliminating D.R. from the reality TV competition. Adam gave America “a pass on this one,” suggesting that they simply made a mistake in not voting for him this week. Back in the blind auditions this Fort Washington, Maryland resident performed “Don’t Stop Believin'” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs: Adam and Alicia Keys. In later rounds he took on such big songs as “Sweet Thing,” “Fallin’,” “Overjoyed” and “I’m Goin’ Down.”
On Monday’s performance episode Rayshun performed “When Love Takes Over” and received wild praises from the coaches, including from Adam who called him “the frontrunner.” Apparently America disagreed with Adam, as his version of the song didn’t even crack the Top 200 songs on iTunes.
In his recap of “The Voice” results show our live-blogger Denton Davidson wrote, “[‘I Can’t Stand the Rain’] is a horrible song choice for him. That is not something that I would choose if I was trying to reel in last-minute votes. Regardless, his energy is full-throttle like it always is. Another solid performance from Rayshun. Adam is adamant that Rayshun is a spectacular talent that is one of the best performers this season. It’s a crime if Rayshun goes home this week.”
