A tremendous 5,000 people voted in our recent poll about who should be the host of the 209 Oscars ceremony. And Ricky Gervais is your overwhelming top choice to be the emcee, with 68% of the worldwide public begging producers Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss to choose him as the host of the event.
Caustic comedian Gervais hosted the rival Golden Globes four times in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016. Would the more conservative motion picture academy actually select him to host their next ceremony slated for February 24 on ABC?
ABC’s very own late night host Jimmy Kimmel took the main stage the past two years. In fact he became the first person to emcee consecutive Oscars ceremonies since Billy Crystal did it in the 1990s. In our poll results, he finished in fourth place with 4% of the votes. Ahead of him were Ellen DeGeneres (8%) and Tina Fey/Amy Poehler (5%) and Tiffany Haddish (5%) with a tie. Among the dozen people in our poll, the other tallies included Will Ferrell (4%), Hugh Jackman (3%), Kevin Hart (2%), Lin-Manuel Miranda (1%), Queen Latifah (0%), Justin Timberlake (0%) and Oprah Winfrey (0%).
