In honor of the original cast of “Roseanne” reuniting for a nine-episode revival series that premieres March 27 on ABC, Gold Derby’s contributing writer Tony Ruiz has compiled the definitive list of the 25 best episodes of all time. The series’ pilot features on our list. “Life and Stuff,” which debuted October 18, 1988, focuses on Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and Dan (John Goodman), a working class family who struggle to balance work and family life. Roseanne’s sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) and Roseanne and Dan’s three kids are also introduced in this first half-hour. Watch the revival trailer to see how they’ve all changed over the past 30 years.

The 1993 two-parter “Crime and Punishment”/”War and Peace” makes our list for obvious reasons. After Roseanne discovers that Jackie’s boyfriend Fisher has been beating her, Dan is soon arrested for fighting with Fisher in retaliation. Later, Roseanne is disturbed when Jackie considers staying with her abusive boyfriend. Metcalf’s performance in this emotional outing helped win her an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The show’s controversial marijuana episode, “A Stash from the Past,” also factors high in our rankings. This 1993 laugh riot finds Roseanne, Dan and Jackie getting high in the bathroom while trying to relive their youth.

“Roseanne” aired for nine seasons on ABC, winning four Emmys along the way for lead actress Roseanne (1993) and supporting player Metcalf (1992-94).
