S-Rank have been top contenders all season on “World of Dance.” The Upper Team Division hip-hop crew have scored in the 90s with every single performance. They had the second best Qualifiers score in their division. Then they got the highest Duels score. And then they earned the second best Cut score. But they were grouped so closely together with The Ruggeds and Proeotics during the Cut that it looked like the Divisional Final would be a dead heat. So how did S-Rank do with their futuristic routine to “Gas Pedal” by Sage the Gemini? Watch it above.
Guest judge Misty Copeland literally bowed down before them, explaining that the dance “got me feeling everything.” Jennifer Lopez added, “So long as you make it personal and real, we’re all going to feel it. And we all definitely felt that performance.” Derek Hough thought their “musicality is always just top level,” but he did admit to being slightly underwhelmed overall. He told them that there’s a difference between a great performance and a performance so good that it gets the judges out of their seats declaring, “That’s the winner right there!” This one didn’t quite reach that level for him.
Nevertheless, S-Rank managed to win their division with an average score of 94. That was their second highest score of the season, just one-third of a point behind their Duels routine, but out of the four division champions who advanced to the World Final, it was only the third best. Next week they’re going to have to get the judges out of their seats just like The Lab and Michael Dameski did when they won their divisions.
