“World of Dance” finalists S-Rank might have realized they were underdogs in the World Final, since their past performances never scored quite as high as the best routines by their rivals Charity and Andres, The Lab and Michael Dameski. But team leader Melvin Timtim didn’t just want to impress the judges with his last performance. He wanted to impress his father. Watch their performance above.
Before their second and final performance of the night to “It’s Goin’ Down” by Yung Joc, Timtim discussed how much S-Rank sacrificed just to be there. Timtim himself got emotional when discussing how he pursued his dance career even though his parents didn’t always approve. But this time Timtim’s father was in the audience. “I want to give a shout-out to my dad,” said Timtim at the end of the routine. “He’s never seen me dance live like this. Thank you for being here with me, dad. I love you so much.”
S-Rank’s “swaggy” biker-themed number got a standing ovation from the judges. The dancers were crying, and it even got Jennifer Lopez choked up even though it wasn’t an overtly emotional routine. Derek Hough told them, “It’s important to finish strong, and I think you just did that.” And Ne-Yo told the elder Timtim in the audience, “You, sir, should be so proud of this dude right here.”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for them to win the competition. In fact, S-Rank ranked fourth out of the four finalists, but they had nothing to be ashamed of, especially when you consider how close the point totals were. The final average of their two performances was 93.5, which was just four points less than the champion team The Lab (97.5). What did you think? Should the judges have scored them higher, or did the right team win “World of Dance” season two?
